Bill overview
The Telehealth Expansion Act of 2020 permanently extends the ability to provide mental health services and certain evaluation and management services via telehealth under Medicare. Currently, these services are only temporarily available due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. This bill removes restrictions on where these telehealth services must be delivered, allowing them to be provided from locations other than a patient’s home, and expands the definition of a ‘qualified provider’ to include those who have previously provided in-person services to the patient. The goal is to improve access to these important healthcare services, particularly for mental health care.
