Bill overview
The Teleabortion Prevention Act of 2021 restricts how chemical abortions (medication abortions) can be performed. It requires a licensed healthcare provider to physically examine the patient, be present during the abortion, and schedule a follow-up appointment. There’s an exception for abortions necessary to save a woman’s life due to a physical condition related to the pregnancy. Violations of these requirements could result in fines or imprisonment, though patients cannot be prosecuted for seeking or undergoing these abortions.
