Bill overview
The Opioid QuOTA Act of 2021 requires the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to publicly release information about how much opioid medication manufacturers are allowed to purchase (opioid procurement quotas). This includes the quantity of each quota, the amount of opioids actually purchased, and the applications manufacturers submit to request these quotas. The Attorney General can redact some information to protect manufacturers’ competitive positions, but this redaction is subject to judicial review. The bill also directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to report on the implementation of the new requirements.
