Bill overview
The Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act of 2021 establishes a committee to create a tool for identifying environmental justice communities. These communities are defined as those disproportionately affected by environmental hazards due to systemic injustices, often involving race and income. The EPA will establish a data repository and make it available to state and local governments, and the committee will conduct a data gap audit to address shortcomings in nationwide environmental justice data. The tool will incorporate various indicators, including demographics, public health data, and pollution burdens, and will be updated annually.
