Bill overview
The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act of 2022 aims to strengthen federal efforts to combat large-scale retail theft and fraud, often perpetrated by organized groups. The bill expands the scope of criminal offenses related to transporting stolen goods across state lines and selling them, and establishes a new coordination center within the Department of Homeland Security to centralize law enforcement activities. It also seeks to utilize money laundering laws and criminal forfeiture to target these criminal enterprises. Furthermore, the bill updates existing laws to better address organized retail crime and provides for the sharing of information between law enforcement agencies and retailers.
