Bill overview
This bill, the Tax-Free Pell Grant Act, aims to make college more affordable by excluding federal Pell Grant money from an individual’s taxable income. It also expands the American Opportunity and Lifetime Learning tax credit to include computer equipment, child and dependent care expenses, and course materials, up to a maximum of $1,000. These changes are effective starting January 1, 2021.
