Bill overview
The Servicemember Parental Leave Equity Act expands parental leave benefits for members of the U.S. Armed Forces. It increases the amount of paid parental leave available to primary caregivers to 18 weeks following the birth or adoption of a child and to 12 weeks for secondary caregivers, with additional leave available for foster child placements. The bill also extends leave options for situations like miscarriage or infant death and simplifies the process for taking leave in increments. Additionally, the bill reduces the service commitment required for participation in the Career Intermission Program.
