Bill overview
The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 allows individuals who lived, worked, or were exposed in utero at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, between August 1, 1953, and December 31, 1987, to sue the U.S. government for harm caused by contaminated water. To be eligible, individuals must have been exposed for at least 30 days. The Act establishes a specific court and venue for these lawsuits, prohibits the government from claiming immunity, and limits the ability to pursue separate lawsuits against the government for the same harm. It also addresses how any potential compensation will be calculated, considering existing veteran benefits.
