Bill overview
This bill, the Expanding the Voluntary Opportunities for Translations in Elections Act (E-VOTE Act), aims to improve access to voting for individuals with limited English proficiency. It expands requirements for states to provide translated voting materials, establishes incentive grants to encourage states to do so, and directs the Government Accountability Office to study the impact of lowering thresholds for Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act and broadening the definition of ‘language minorities.’ The bill also clarifies procedures for providing materials to American Indian and Alaska Native communities and ensures election workers receive translated materials when needed.
