Bill overview
The Non-Opioids Prevent Addiction In the Nation Act (NOPAIN Act) aims to reduce opioid use by encouraging Medicare to pay separately for certain non-opioid treatments for pain management. Starting in 2022, Medicare will make distinct payments for these treatments, which include specific drugs, biological products, and medical devices that have shown effectiveness in replacing or reducing opioid prescriptions. The bill also directs Medicare to evaluate and report on barriers to accessing these alternative therapies and recommend improvements to coverage.
