Bill overview
The EAGLE Act of 2022 aims to reform U.S. employment-based immigration policies, primarily by eliminating numerical caps on family-sponsored immigrant visas and increasing the cap on employment-based visas. It introduces transition rules for employment-based visas, including reserving visas for states with lower immigration rates and establishing stricter requirements for H-1B visas, such as prohibiting discriminatory advertising and limiting the number of nonimmigrant workers an employer can hire. The bill also expands the Department of Labor’s authority to investigate visa fraud and allows certain nonimmigrants to obtain lawful permanent residency after a two-year wait.
