This bill, the Veterans Medical Marijuana Safe Harbor Act, aims to provide protections for veterans who use, possess, or transport medical marijuana in states where it’s legal, as well as allow VA physicians to discuss its potential as a treatment option. It also directs the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct studies on the effects of medical marijuana on veterans with chronic pain and the relationship between state-approved programs and opioid use reduction. The bill will expire in five years.
