Bill overview
This bill, the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, requires candidates for President and Vice President, as well as the current President and Vice President, to disclose their federal income tax returns to the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The returns must cover the ten most recent taxable years for candidates and nine preceding years for the President and Vice President. The FEC will then make these returns public, after redacting information that could compromise personal security, such as Social Security numbers. If a candidate or President/Vice President fails to comply with the disclosure requirements, the IRS will be required to provide the returns to the FEC upon request.
