Bill overview
This bill aims to strengthen enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act by giving USDA inspectors greater authority to address animal suffering. Specifically, it allows inspectors to confiscate and, if necessary, destroy animals found to be experiencing physical or psychological harm due to violations of the Act. The bill also requires the USDA to promptly share inspection records with local animal control and law enforcement, and increases penalties for violations, including the possibility of civil action to collect unpaid fines.
