Bill overview
This bill proposes to award the Defenders of Ukraine a Congressional Gold Medal to honor their courageous defense of Ukraine against Russia’s invasion. The bill recognizes the significant sacrifices made by Ukrainian citizens, the military, and government officials in resisting the Russian aggression. Following the presentation of the medal, it will be given to the Government of Ukraine, or temporarily held by the Smithsonian Institution if Ukraine does not have a democratically elected government until one is restored.
