Bill overview
This bill aims to encourage states and local governments to offer strong protections for law enforcement officers through qualified immunity. Specifically, it requires these entities to certify that their laws provide a level of qualified immunity similar to that established in the Saucier v. Katz Supreme Court case. If a state or local government doesn’t meet this requirement, they may be ineligible for certain federal grant programs used for community development and rural infrastructure. The bill seeks to align state and local policies with established legal standards regarding officer protection.
