Bill overview
This bill, the IG Subpoena Authority Act, grants Inspectors General (IGs) the power to issue subpoenas to compel witnesses to provide testimony. Previously, IGs lacked this authority, but the bill establishes a process for issuing subpoenas, including a review by a panel of three IGs from the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. The Attorney General can review and object to subpoenas if they interfere with ongoing investigations. This legislation aims to strengthen IGs' ability to investigate and ensure accountability within the federal government.
