Bill overview
The American Energy Independence from Russia Act aims to bolster U.S. energy security and reduce reliance on Russian energy imports. It directs the President to create an energy security plan, authorizes the Keystone XL pipeline, grants the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authority over natural gas exports and imports, and prevents the government from restricting new energy leases on federal lands. The bill also mandates increased domestic oil and gas lease sales and establishes a plan to link federal land leasing with Strategic Petroleum Reserve drawdown levels.
