Bill overview
This bill, the COVID–19 Border Protection (CBP) Act, directs the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to create a strategy to prevent the release of individuals in their custody – including unaccompanied alien children – into communities if they may have a communicable disease, particularly COVID-19. The strategy must include testing and quarantine plans for those potentially infected. Funds previously allocated to the Department of State for international COVID-19 assistance will be redirected to DHS to support this effort. This legislation aims to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 within the U.S. border system.
