Bill overview
This bill, titled the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2021, would temporarily halt federal funding to Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates for one year. To receive funding, these organizations would need to certify that they will not perform or fund abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or to prevent a life-threatening medical condition. Any funds previously received by Planned Parenthood would be redirected to other community health centers, subject to similar abortion restrictions. The bill also allocates $235 million to community health centers, with restrictions on abortion-related spending.
