Bill overview
This bill, the VA Safe Holidays Act, requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to proactively inform veterans and those who receive VA benefits about resources available to help prevent and address identity theft. Specifically, the VA must conduct a 10-week outreach campaign starting November 1st each year, promoting the Veteran Identity Theft Helpline and other relevant resources. The VA will also be required to submit a plan to Congress outlining these outreach efforts and how they support veterans and beneficiaries facing identity theft.
