Bill overview
The Hack Your State Department Act requires the Department of State to create a formal process for security researchers to report vulnerabilities in their systems and establish a bug bounty program to incentivize the discovery and reporting of these issues. The bill mandates the Department to publicly outline this Vulnerability Disclosure Process and regularly report on its effectiveness, including the number of vulnerabilities found and fixed. It also directs the Department to learn from previous bug bounty programs, such as Hack the Pentagon, to improve the pilot program.
