Bill overview
This bill makes technical amendments to Public Law 93-531, which governs land settlement agreements between the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe. It addresses issues related to relocation requirements, studies on the impacts of past development freezes (the Bennett Freeze), expands the Office of Navajo and Hopi Indian Relocation’s authority, and clarifies land selection processes. Specifically, the bill allows the Navajo Nation to select additional land, provides for a rehabilitation program to redress the effects of the Bennett Freeze, and establishes a fund to support economic development in designated empowerment zones.
