Bill overview
The College Student Hunger Act of 2021 expands eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to include college students enrolled in and residing at institutions of higher education. It also directs the USDA to develop a strategy for increasing awareness of SNAP benefits for students and to create updated guidance for state outreach efforts. Furthermore, the bill establishes a pilot program to test new ways of delivering SNAP benefits to college students, such as allowing them to use benefits for on-campus meals. Finally, it requires the USDA to evaluate the pilot program and make recommendations for improving SNAP to better serve this population.
