Bill overview
The HOTEL Act of 2022 aims to protect federal employees by prioritizing accommodations in hotels and motels that have strong policies against severe forms of human trafficking. The bill requires federal agencies to book employee lodging with these ‘preferred’ accommodations, which must demonstrate a zero-tolerance policy and have procedures for employees to report exploitation. It also mandates training for employees who interact with guests and requires hotels to include specific information about trafficking prevention in their employee materials and contracts. Finally, the General Services Administration (GSA) will develop resources and maintain a list of compliant accommodations and oversee self-certification.
