Bill overview
The Public Servant Protection Act of 2022 allows government officials to demand that individuals and online platforms like social media companies remove their personal information – specifically home addresses and phone numbers – from the internet. Once a demand is made, the information must be removed within 48 hours, and it cannot be publicly displayed for the following four years. Officials who fail to comply can be sued, and courts can order the information to be removed and award damages, including attorney’s fees.
