Bill overview
This bill, the Comparison of Sustainable Transportation Act, directs the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to analyze the costs of switching gasoline-powered vehicles in the federal fleet to electric vehicles or flex-fuel ethanol vehicles. It also requires the Department of Energy (DOE) to conduct a lifecycle analysis of greenhouse gas emissions from conventional gasoline vehicles, E85-capable flex-fuel vehicles, and battery electric vehicles. The findings of these analyses will be publicly available within a year of the bill’s enactment. This legislation aims to inform decisions about transitioning to more sustainable transportation options for the federal government.
