Bill overview
This bill, the Securing Our Border States Act, aims to provide substantial funding to four southwestern states – Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California – to construct barriers and related infrastructure along their borders with Mexico. It establishes a block grant program, funded at $22 billion, where states can apply for grants based on the miles of their border lacking barriers. To finance this, $22 billion in COVID-19 relief funds are permanently rescinded. The Department of the Treasury will distribute these funds to the states after they certify their intent to use them for border barrier construction.
