Bill overview
This bill, the No Pensions for Corrupt Politicians Act of 2021, aims to prevent corrupt politicians from receiving pension payments. It changes current law to temporarily halt pension payments for members of Congress who are convicted of public corruption offenses, starting from the date of their sentencing. Currently, these payments are only suspended after a final conviction is reached. The bill clarifies that this suspension applies to both the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) and the Federal Employees’ Retirement System (FERS) for service rendered as a member.
