Bill overview
The Uniting Families Act of 2021 creates a new pathway for U.S. citizens who served in the military abroad to bring their adult children to live in the United States. To qualify, a citizen parent must petition for their child, providing DNA evidence of their relationship, a written agreement to provide financial support, and proof of the parent’s U.S. citizenship and military service overseas. In cases where the parent is deceased, a sibling can file the petition if they are capable of providing financial support. Those granted a visa can then apply to become permanent residents after meeting certain requirements.
