Bill overview
The Home for the Brave Act of 2021 aims to help veterans and their families access affordable housing. It ensures that veterans’ disability compensation and dependency and indemnity compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs are not counted as income when determining eligibility or benefit amounts for Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) housing assistance programs. This means veterans and their families may be able to receive more assistance without losing benefits. The bill clarifies that these VA benefits should not be considered income for HUD’s housing programs.
