The NEED Water Act aims to provide drought relief in California by directing the Department of Commerce and the Department of the Interior to maximize water supplies from the Central Valley Project and the State Water Project. It extends funding for water storage projects, extends existing water projects until December 31, 2031, and extends cooperation between federal and state agencies to address water resource issues. The bill also includes provisions to protect third-party water rights and incorporates elements of the RENEW WIIN Act to extend certain authorities related to water infrastructure projects.
