Bill overview
The MALDEN Act aims to improve the speed and fairness of disaster assistance for states and tribal governments, particularly those in rural areas. It requires the federal government to approve major and emergency disaster declarations within 30 days of a request from the governor or tribal chief executive. Additionally, the bill establishes a process for providing rural communities with resources and support to prepare for and recover from disasters, including assistance with recovery teams and case workers for denied individual assistance requests.
