Bill overview
The Break the Chain Act significantly alters family-sponsored immigration rules in the United States. It reduces the annual cap on family-sponsored visas from 480,000 to 87,934, redefines immediate family to exclude parents of U.S. citizens, and establishes a new nonimmigrant category for the parents of adult U.S. citizens. The bill also modifies the criteria for determining a child’s age for immigration purposes and creates specific conditions for the admission and employment of these alien parents.
