The Tax-Preparer Enforcement, Accountability, and Minimum Standards Act (TEAMS Act) aims to improve the quality of tax return preparation by establishing minimum competency standards for tax preparers. This legislation authorizes the Treasury Department to regulate preparers, sanction those who are incompetent or behave disreputably, and create these new standards. It also grants the IRS increased authority to oversee and enforce these standards, including the ability to revoke identifying numbers for preparers who fail to meet requirements.
