Bill overview
This bill increases penalties for individuals who re-enter the United States after having been deported without proper authorization. Specifically, it establishes a minimum five-year prison sentence for those found to have illegally re-entered the country. If convicted of another crime in addition to illegal re-entry, the sentences for both offenses will be served consecutively. The bill clarifies the definition of ‘illegal alien’ to include those who entered without inspection or whose status has expired.
