Bill overview
The Dental and Optometric Care Access Act of 2021 aims to improve dental and vision coverage under health insurance plans. It prohibits insurance companies from setting excessively high rates for services provided by optometrists and dentists, and limits the length of agreements between these providers and insurance plans to no more than two years with renewal approval. The bill also prevents insurance companies from restricting a doctor’s choice of laboratories or suppliers, and establishes a private right of action for individuals harmed by violations of the law. Importantly, it doesn’t override existing state laws governing health insurance.
