Bill overview
The Protecting Critical Infrastructure Act of 2021 aims to strengthen federal criminal penalties for computer fraud and abuse offenses targeting critical infrastructure systems. It increases the potential prison sentence for such crimes to 30 years or life, and authorizes the President to impose asset- and visa-blocking sanctions on foreign individuals and entities that attempt to access critical infrastructure for malicious purposes. The bill also establishes a framework for the President to waive these sanctions in specific circumstances to protect national security interests.
