Bill overview
This bill, the Fair Credit Reporting for Servicemembers Act, strengthens consumer credit protections for military personnel. It extends these protections to service members deployed in combat zones or on U.S. vessels, designating them as ‘extended active duty uniformed consumers.’ The bill also prohibits including negative credit information from a service member’s time in active duty or extended active duty on their consumer report, and provides a process for service members to challenge inaccurate information. Finally, it requires credit reporting agencies to notify service members of received adverse information and how to dispute it.
