Bill overview
The ASSIST Act aims to increase access to mental health and substance use disorder care for students by authorizing the Department of Health and Human Services to provide grants to schools and school-based health centers. These grants will be used to hire more behavioral health care providers, such as counselors, psychologists, and social workers. The bill also increases the federal government's share of Medicaid costs for these services when they are provided in schools and health centers.
