Bill overview
The Defense Community Teacher Support Act aims to provide student loan relief to teachers working in communities with a significant military presence. Specifically, elementary and secondary school teachers who teach for five consecutive years in a designated ‘military impacted community’ may be eligible to have up to $17,500 of federal student loans forgiven. The bill also offers flexibility for teachers whose spouses are deployed, allowing them to meet the five-year requirement by teaching in multiple schools within such communities, and defines key terms like ‘military impacted community’ and ‘military dependent student.’
