Bill overview
This bill, the Cruising for Alaska’s Workforce Act, would allow cruise ships carrying over 1,000 passengers to transport people between Alaskan ports and other U.S. ports, either directly or through foreign ports. The authorization would only be in effect until the Coast Guard notifies ship owners that they must stop transporting passengers within 270 days of the notification, unless a coastwise-qualified vessel begins offering similar service. The bill also addresses the employment of foreign crew members on these vessels.
