Bill overview
This bill extends the Department of Defense’s ability to temporarily increase basic housing allowances (BAH) for military families in areas where housing costs have risen significantly. Specifically, it extends the authority to adjust BAH rates by more than 20% if civilian housing costs exceed current allowances, and also allows for increases in areas affected by major disasters. The goal is to alleviate financial burdens on service members facing higher rental costs when relocating or renewing leases. This extension applies through December 31, 2024.
