Bill overview
This bill, titled Sarah’s Law, requires U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain certain individuals who are unlawfully present in the United States and have been charged with a crime resulting in death or serious bodily injury. ICE must make efforts to identify victims of these crimes and provide relevant information, including the alien’s identity, immigration status, criminal history, and any removal proceedings, to the victims or their families. The bill amends existing immigration law to strengthen ICE’s ability to address this issue.
