Bill overview
This bill, known as Sarah’s Law, requires U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain certain unlawfully present aliens who have been charged with crimes resulting in death or serious bodily injury. ICE must make efforts to identify victims and provide them, or their families, with information about the alien’s identity, immigration status, criminal history, and removal efforts. The legislation aims to increase transparency and accountability regarding the status of individuals accused of violent crimes and to better support victims and their families.
