Bill overview
The RISE Act of 2021 aims to improve access and support for students with disabilities pursuing higher education. It requires colleges and universities to accept a wider range of documentation – including IEPs and Section 504 plans – to establish disability status and eligibility for accommodations. The bill also mandates transparent processes for determining accommodation eligibility and requires institutions to share relevant data with federal education agencies to better track student success. Finally, it provides funding for a national center to support postsecondary students with disabilities.
