Bill overview
The Thin Blue Line Act amends federal law to strengthen penalties for murderers who specifically target or kill law enforcement officers, firefighters, or other first responders. It adds these groups to the list of aggravating factors considered during death penalty determinations. This means that if a murderer intentionally harms or kills a public safety officer while performing their duties, it will be viewed more seriously by the courts. The changes will go into effect 30 days after the bill is enacted.
