Bill overview
The Health Equity and Access under the Law for Immigrant Families Act of 2021 aims to expand access to healthcare for immigrants in the United States. It seeks to remove legal and policy barriers that prevent lawfully present immigrants, including those with DACA, from receiving Medicaid, CHIP, and health insurance exchange benefits. The bill also clarifies eligibility for these programs for individuals with federally authorized presence and eliminates state restrictions on Medicaid eligibility for long-term residents. Furthermore, it modifies tax laws to provide premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions to immigrants who might otherwise be excluded from Affordable Care Act coverage.
