Bill overview
The Student Empowerment Act expands the use of funds in 529 college savings plans to cover a wider range of educational expenses for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Currently, these plans could only be used for tuition at public, private, or religious schools. This bill allows funds to be used for curriculum materials, books, online learning, tutoring, testing fees, dual enrollment, and educational therapies for students with disabilities, including those received through homeschooling.
