Bill overview
The Stopping Grinch Bots Act of 2021 prohibits individuals from using automated tools, often called "bots," to unfairly bypass website security measures and purchase limited products or services. Specifically, it makes it illegal to circumvent controls designed to manage inventory or ensure equitable access to products in interstate commerce, and to resell products obtained through such circumvention. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will be responsible for enforcing this law, and states can also bring lawsuits to protect their residents’ interests.
